LEED Silver Certification building, Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Branch at Hagerstown, Maryland
Serving Washington County, Maryland, and the Cumberland Valley since 1898, the Washington County Free Library System is dedicated to serving the personal, educational, and professional information needs of our communities. WCFL promotes community enrichment and economic vitality by providing information and library materials in a variety of formats.
Founders of America's first bookmobile and the second oldest county-wide library system in the United States, we are proud of our years of service and innovation.
Governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees, WCFL is pledged to helping government, business, education, and community leaders reach Washington County's vision of excellence.
The Alice Virginia and David W. Fletcher Library branch of the Washington County Free Library was designed as a state of the art educational center for the citizens of Washington County. The design and construction focused on creating a comfortable space for staff and visitors with an emphasis on sustainable building materials and energy efficiency.
The Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certification rating system was created to promote environmental responsibility and the construction of green buildings. This library building was designed to achieve the LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
