The Annual Short Story & Poetry Contest entry judgments have been delayed as a result of library and school closures. Thank you for your patience.

All WCFL branches will remain closed to the public indefinitely. We are postponing due dates for materials to Tuesday, June 30.
All holds currently ready for pickup will be available when the library reopens.
Please note that book drops throughout the county are closed; please keep checked out items until the library reopens.

What is 1000 Books Before Kindergarten?

The Washington County Free Library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages families to read at least 1000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. The program, open to any child aged birth to five years, is self-paced and the end date is your child’s first day of kindergarten.

1000 books seems like a lot but if you read one book a day, you will meet your goal in under three years. If you read three books each day, you could reach your goal in one year! Visit your local library for more details and to register for the program!

Visit your local library branch on Saturday, January 12 for Kick-Off events to learn more about this awesome new program:
